Traditional Uses: Traditionally used in Mediterranean and European folk medicine as a digestive aid for indigestion, flatulence, and stomach cramps, as a circulatory stimulant to improve memory and concentration, and topically for hair growth, dandruff, and muscle pain.
Potential Benefits: May help improve cognitive performance (memory, focus, processing speed), reduce anxiety and stress, exhibit potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, and modestly improve mood and sleep quality; topical rosemary oil has shown comparable effectiveness to 2% minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness).
Warnings: Avoid therapeutic/internal doses during pregnancy and breastfeeding (may stimulate uterine contractions and cause miscarriage); do not ingest rosemary essential oil (toxic in high doses); may interact with anticoagulants (warfarin), ACE inhibitors, diuretics, and diabetes medications; high doses may cause GI upset, kidney irritation, or seizures.
